Russia is her home and so is Moscow. But she also has Ukrainian roots. The historian and human rights activist Irina Scherbakowa left Moscow head over heels at the beginning of the war against Ukraine. Today she lives in Tel Aviv and Berlin, stands for a European fate in turbulent times and is one of the most interesting and courageous people of Russian emigration in Europe. She co-founded the human rights organization 'Memorial', which Putin had banned and which has now been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
