Lyudmila Ulitskaya is the most interesting contemporary Russian author. The geneticist with the analytical view of Russian society has won all the literary prizes in Russia, but is not loved by the state. She has even been nominated for the Nobel Prize. In 2021, she received the Siegfried Lenz Prize in Hamburg. Like only a few contemporary Russian authors, Lyudmila Ulitskaya has also reached a broad Western audience with her books.
